Our Priority Sectors

We are currently prioritizing applications from companies in the life sciences and smart transportation sectors. That said, we are always excited to hear from businesses commercializing extraordinary innovations. If this sounds like your company, we encourage you to apply to our Runway Accelerator.

Life Sciences in Hamilton

Hamilton is home to a top-tier life sciences ecosystem, anchored by world-class research institutions such as McMaster University – ranked in the top one percent of global higher education and research institutions, Hamilton Health Sciences, Mohawk College and St. Joseph’s Healthcare. The broader ecosystem is made up of hundreds of life science organizations, companies, and research institutes.

Synapse Life Science Consortium

Serving as the primary support for this ecosystem is Hamilton’s Synapse Life Science Consortium, Canada’s leading health research and education cluster.

Synapse seeks to support all companies and research institutions that make up the Hamilton life science cluster, celebrating the strengths and successes of industry leaders and new start-ups, as well as promoting the region as an attractive place to live, work, and invest.

Life Sciences and Advanced Health sectors are not just thriving in Hamilton, they are leading innovation in Canada and the world.

Home of Transportation Innovation in Canada

Hamilton is the multimodal movement capital of Canada. Located at the centre of one of the world’s busiest economic hubs, stretching from New York to Montreal, Hamilton’s strategic location and infrastructure supports all forms of transportation; passenger, eCommerce, heavy cargo, and commodities. Hamilton is one of the few Canadian cities ready-built with all four major transportation systems within its municipal boundaries – road, rail, air and port.

Centre for Integrated Transportation and Mobility

Additionally, Hamilton is the home to the Centre for Integrated Transportation and Mobility (CITM).

CITM recruits, develops, and supports start-ups and small and medium enterprise (SME) clients seeking to develop technology, products, and solutions in the connected and autonomous transportation and mobility sector.

Strategically located in Hamilton, CITM is an integral part of six Regional Technology Development Sites (RTDS) belonging to the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN).
